Spiritual matters and iconic images are a recurring source of inspiration in my art. This inspiration is rooted in my Puerto Rican Catholic upbringing, which included a continuous exposure to religious images and stories. It also finds a source in my present study of Tibetan Buddhism. I have created both installations and paintings and Christian imagery examples of this type of work include an installation titled “Francis of assissi” utilizing dried leaves as well as an installation which included the figure of The Buddha titled “What The Sea Brought In”. I am self-taught as an artist and frequently use natural materials. It is my belief that art should reflect all of life and speak to the world we live in. This belief has encouraged me in one of my current artistic explorations: a photographic and written narrative concerning a murder/ suicide in my neighborhood. |
